I work at a wawa #693 I use to love working for this store until about a few months back when we got a new general and assistant general manager at this said store. Now dont get me wrong, the employees and i had high hopes for these two new managers but sadly we were wrong.. I've noticed that unless you're sucking up to them or joining in when they are bad mouthing customers and other employees then they tend to mess with your hours and workload. The normal slackers that always call out for some bs excuse or don't even show get all the hours in the world while the hard working ones that need these paychecks to live or want to move up within the company get cut if something important pops up. In the months working with them they promote young people around my age 18 - 25 to shift managers and all they do is give away free food to their friends or let that power get to their head and be lazy just like the both the gm and agm. They let these group of redneck regular customers come in get free coffee, loiter in the store, be loud and block the flow of customer traffic and let these said customers talk to us any kind of way and when we point this stuff out to the gm and agm they say that its okay because theyre loyal customers but anyone else that tries that they'll point it out and embarrass them in front of the whole store. I thought wawa was supposed to be a family company and that was one of the reasons why I decided to work here but sadly I can only consider 3 people as close friends because everyone else I try to communicate with is either complaining about what the previous shift didn't do or bad mouthing an employee who is trying their best because half of the people here are not properly trained.. my experience I've had with the gm and agm is when i had to work a graveyard shift but i had to call out because my dad went against doctor's orders and ripped open his stiches when i called the store I talked to Diane (agm), she informed me in a snippy tone that my shift was a graveyard and questioned if they were going to be done by then..i was shocked to hear that, i told her that its my dad and I needed to be by his side, she told me that i needed to talk to the gm (gabe) .. but before she gave the phone to him i hear in the background

Diane: its her. Shes calling out.

Gabe: but its a graveyard shift

Diane: i know thats what i said.

Then gabe proceeds to pick up the phone and let me explain before getting upset and hanging up on me. The next week after that incident i went from 39 hours to just 25. I am a hard worker that breaks her back for this store and established a nice customer service relationship with a handful of customers and local police departments. I rarely call out unless its a family emergency or im physically too sick to get out of bed and yet i get overlooked by some people for shift manager position because they put on a show for the gm and agm. Theres a shift manager thats asks me how to do stuff, from printing labels to refunding a transaction i feel like if my old agm ( Travis ely, he taught me almost everything) was still here, he probably would of recommended me to be a manager and that breaks my heart because no one at this store gives me a chance other than the customers who keep telling me that I need to be one. Me and my little wawa family that consists of 3 people have families to take care of and we're the main ones that our hours cut but be the first ones they call when their slack offs call out, im at the point of leaving but im only staying for my customers and my wawa family

Wawa was always a family/customer oriented business and it was amazing until about 2004/2005. Now it's all about money...there's no longer time to even establish customer relationships because of the constant micromanagement. I'm surprised people actually have the patience these days to wait for their food knowing how ridiculously understaffed some of these stores are.

Same problem here in a Florida store. A recently new employee recently got a key holder code despite his two no call no shows leaving me and the FSM that Sunday to run the whole deli, beverage, rss, sizzli, and coffee, by ourselves for an hour until the other workers clocked in, it was a nightmare.

he Called out sick to work but was later found by a shift manager at a restaurant watching the game, was 3 hours late to his sixty day review yet still got a raise. He even tried to find someone to cover for his Wednesday shift on a Tuesday, and when he couldn't, he just chose not to show up Wednesday. And come to find out he was pushed to get a key holder code by the same FSM he screwed over with me that Sunday. This is ridiculous.

I and many other loyal hard-working employees were overlooked. I've been working at wawa before they even had contracts to build in Florida and I get passed over like this. it's sad that this type of behavior is being promoted by managers who are supposed to set an example. an employee who was reported stealing multiple times from the store still has her job...these practices are sad and this type of foolishness never occured or was tolerated at the stores I worked at up north.

There needs to be more consideration, respect and care for hourly employees who care and work hard because at the end of the day it's US who makes the GMs look good and the company.

We should not be treated this way and taken advantage of getting passed over for higher positions we are more than qualified for because of people who don't even bother to show up to work most days get the position instead. It's WRONG

We have an employee whose mother is a AGM and she has been written up plenty of times, and they refuse to get rid of her. She even walked out one day before end of shift and they didnt' fire her.

Can you say NEPOTISM !!!! All because her mother is a AGM at another store and she probably has something she is holding over the district mgr's head, so he won't allow our store manager to fire, which she wants to do.

Similar situation at my store. Favoritism is number one problem.

I've been at my store since day one and nvr had a problem till recently. Now I went from almost 40 hours per week to 25. Nvr told why. First complaint came about me from a man who wants me to loose my job.

He had nvr even said what I did to supposedly offend him. What I'm afraid of is that this misguided person may win. I already been written up and it appears this person won't stop writing into corp. That should speak for itself negatively on him, not me.

I'm not sure what has been going on lately at WaWa but it does concern me. I love my job and Co workers. I am a dependable friendly employee.

Always has been. Didn't that count

I totally understand what you are going through. I'm in Pinellas county, Florida Wawa and they play favorites over here too.

I had a manager degrade and bully me in front of customers and c0-workers. Now the co-workers (not all of them) are not sticking up for me. Especially the ones that are *** kissers to managers and are promised by management certain extra-curricular activities after work. It's pathetic.

I have never even had a warning or been written up the almost 2 yrs I've been here and because I stuck up for myself may get the ax. That's okay because everything I know will now come out to corporate and my attorney. They better hold on to their pants cause it's not gonna be pretty.

I love my job too but can't go back to that store where you are bullied, disrespected and worked like a dog while management sits on their *** in the office. EEO and Dept of Labor involved too
